Stop Judging People's Forgiveness Journeys

"If you haven't had the experience, you do not have a right to judge the process." This thought came to me just two days ago, as I thought about that foregone conclusion better known as "forgiveness."

There was a story last week of Kevin Hart and his new wife's pregnancy announcement. Immediately, our lame media reached out to his ex-wife Torrie Hart to get her reaction, ready to pounce on her and drag her name through the mud, if her response was anything but positive. The truth is she needs to be left alone. Kevin cheated on her and left their marriage for this very woman. She was with Kevin when he was making $50 a night at local comedy club, keeping their home together, and raising his two children. She has more than earned the right to feel some type of way. Whether she reacts positively or negatively towards him, it is her choice, her forgiveness process.

Then there's Mary Harvey, Steve Harvey's second wife (His on wife number three; yet, you'll monkey tails keep buying his relationship books #rollseyes). News broke on last week that she has filed a 60 million civil suit alleging that he kidnapped their son and murdered her soul. Keep in mind that she lost custody of her son due to Steve's vicious slander, was almost jailed, and it is rumored that he engaged in an affair with his current wife, while still married to Mary. Now only the two of them know what truly transpired, but whether she chooses to forgive him or not, her journey, her process.

Many of you know my story; almost 34 years ago this coming August, I was molested, and this event changed the trajectory of my life. I am still affected by it. Now are those who feel that I should move on, or at the very least stop talking about it. How do I know? You change the subject or get quiet when I mention it. Over time, the idea of forgiveness has come up, and honestly, I don't know if I am there. What I know is that it is difficult to forgive when there is no apology, no acknowledgment, or when you continue to suffer long after the other person has moved on, which I would imagine is something very similar to what Torrie Hart and Mary Harvey may be experiencing.

Now any self-help guru worth his or her salt will tell you that ":forgiveness is not about the other person, it is what you need to do to be okay." I call bullshit! Forgiveness is about all parties involved; the burden should not be placed upon the offended party to be the bigger person, and if you subscribe to a religion that teaches you that kind of malarkey, you need to rethink your religion.

Some people forgive within months, for some it may take years, and in all honesty, for some it never occurs. But wherever the offended party is in that journey, allow the individual to have his or her feelings. If you haven't experienced the trauma, keep your well meaning, Bible quoting, psycho babble to yourself. Even if you have experienced the trauma, know that everyone's journey is different and no two people experience or deal with trauma the same.

Listen, show empathy, and learn to be silent, unless you are asked to speak!

Rompers and Toxic Masculinity

There are many nonsense debates and hot topics via social media. It is a platform that has become a breeding ground for assholes, those with low self-esteem, and those who I refer to as keyboard bullies (chicken shits who would never say those things to you in public, but have the courage of David when he slew Goliath, when they are on social media).

One of these nonsensical topics was men wearing rompers. For those of you who are not fashionably astute, rompers are one piece short sets, where the top and bottom halves are all one piece.

The overly masculine men had plenty to say (you know the ones who are overly aggressive via social media because they are trying to "show out" for their boys, while claiming to love women). The ones who are experts on everything manly, but have no problem receiving oral sex from men, or cruising adult bookstores and dark alleys for men to "experiment" with. Trust me.  there are more of these type men than you think. This is not to say that every man who has a dissenting opinion is down low, but when you make that your primary focus, and you will always have to chime in when these type of conversations arise, then yes, you have some latent tendencies that you might need to see a therapist about.  Men who are truly heterosexual, don't take the time to worry about other men; they are too busy handling their own manhoods to give another man a second thought!

But the saddest thing is, the women even chimed in (but these same women have no problem having a gay best friend, gay hair dresser, or letting a gay man direct their choir at church (I call them fag hags. Women who like gay men, strictly if they can use or abuse them for their own fodder). I feel sorry for the gay men who even consider you a friend, because they deserve better.

But while we are on the subject of real men, let's talk about a few things!

1. Real men make sure that all of their children have the same mother. Oh, you are quiet now. There is nothing more disgusting when you have several children, and none of them have the same mother. Why? Because there is no way you can give ample time, attention, and care, when all of your children don't live in the same household. Someone gets short changed. One of the major reasons why there are so many fucked up adults, because you spread your "seed" around, rather than making it work with one woman. Yes, life happens, but when your bulk of your manhood is centered around your dick, rather than things that actually matter, these things tend to happen.

2. Real men make sure their sons respect women. It is upsetting to see memes, conversations, and overall toxic masculinity where men disrespect women. These same men would catch a case if someone spoke to or about their mothers or sisters in the same way. And while we are on the subject, you don't have to be related to, or connected to a woman, to show them respect. It should come naturally; that is what real men do!

3. Real men teach their sons that there is more to life than sports. Some of you constantly brag about your son's prowess in sports; yet, he is not reading on his grade level. If and this is a big if, he does play professional ball, who is going to read his contract to him? Trust me the sports organization is going to be looking out for themselves, and so are the lawyers. It's downright sad because you can see these fathers living out their failed dreams through their sons. Most of the time when I see academic related post about males, it comes from their mothers, wives, or some other woman in their lives. Let's stop this caveman shit! Sports are great; there is nothing better than a good basketball game, but you need to teach those little mofos that being educated is not white, nor is it not masculine, and make sure they can be their woman's equal on an intellectual level as well.

4. Real men take care of home! I have so many women in my life (co-workers, relatives, casual acquaintances, etc) who are working multiple jobs, and their men have one job. What is wrong with this picture? If you are truly the "man" as you "flex" about via social media, why is your woman working harder than you? Shouldn't your woman have one job or no job, and you are the one with the multiple jobs? If your woman is working harder than you, then you are not the man, you are just a roommate (get mad, but these are facts). If money is that tight, you should be the one with the side hustle, because that is what real men do! Maybe, if you cut out some of your gym time, your wives/girlfriends won't have to work so hard. (I am going to quit before you'll get too mad). Ha!

So now that I have highlighted some things about how some of you don't have your shit together, is a romper a really big deal? Prince (God rest his soul) wore makeup, heels, butt out jeans, and got more ass than some of you who are always showing us various parts of your body, which we do not want to see, but you show us anyway). The late James Brown, Elvis Presley, and Sean Connery in his James Bond role, all wore rompers during the 1970's, and either one of these men in their prime could get more ass than any of you, in those rompers.

The point is when you are concerned with your own manhood, when you are doing it right, you really don't have the time or energy to worry about another man's manhood. Because clothes don't determine sexuality, attraction and sexual activity do. Above all, mind your business! You will never see me in a romper; not because I think it's wrong, but I have a weird shaped body, and they are not for me! But if I see another man wearing one, I will not judge or question his sexuality, I will simply say, it's not for me, and move on with life, and some of the rest of you would be better off doing the same.

And for those of you who want to wear one, but are too preoccupied with what your "boys" may say, do you! Because I bet those same mofos who you are "flexing" for have some secrets that they don't want to you to know about!

Tiny and LaLa: Don't Allow Anyone to Waste Your Time

Black Hollywood has been rocked in recent weeks with the splits between Tiny and T.I. and Carmelo and LaLa Anthony. They were two of the black Hollywood couples who you knew would weather any storm and/or beat the odds, so despite the merry-go-round that is Hollywood relationships, you still held out hope that they would persevere.

I don't pretend to know the cause for the demise of either relationship, but what I do know that both of these women gave these men some of the best years of their life, and at the end of the day, other than their precious children, that's about all they have. There is nothing worse than spending a great chunk of your life with someone, and all you have are the years.

Sure, neither woman is dead broke or is suffering materialistically, but at 37 (LaLa) and 41 (Tiny) respectively, being single again at those ages is not a picnic. How do I know? Because Tiny and I are the same age, and it is like the Hunger Games dating at this age. In fact, at this age, you have a better chance of being struck by lightning or winning the lottery, than you do finding a mate. You think that I am lying? Walk a mile in my shoes.

But the saddest thing in these tales, is that despite these women's enormous talent and beauty, they were married to some major fuckboys, who occupied 10 plus years of their life. I have it on good authority, that both men were unfaithful for most of that time. Tiny even caught a gun charge for T.I., and he is quoted as saying that they are better off as friends and that marriage is a "distraction." (Let me tell you something, if I catch a criminal charge for your monkey tail, and you refer to your relationship to me as a distraction, your mother will bury you, and I will be wearing prison orange, and will gladly serve every bit of my time!). Carmelo Anthony has another woman pregnant, so not only does LaLa know that he cheated, she knows that he cheated "raw", and no matter the future of their relationship, this woman will be a third party for many years to come.

Life is short, and we only get one! Only God changes people!  Whether it is your mate, a job, or whatever does not provide you with the respect, happiness, and/or fulfillment that you desire, get out. Don't let anyone or anything occupy or consume all of your good years. You are talking to a guy who left a nine year relationship at the age of 32 because I didn't want to spend the bulk of my life with someone who didn't value me or our relationship. Although I am still single nine years later, I have peace, and peace is more beneficial than trying to "save face" or remain in a relationship with someone who is not equally as invested as you are.

Until next time....

When Problematic People Die

The death of Aaron Hernandez stirred something in me...not sadness, regret, or empathy, more like shifted my focus.

See the rule of thumb is usually when someone dies, no matter how nasty, disgusting, hurtful, or dangerous their lives were prior to death, as soon as their last breath leaves the body, everyone suddenly gets amnesia to their nefarious deeds, and wants to give them automatic sainthood.

In fact, if you tell the truth about their pre mortem deeds, you are labeled as soulless, Satan, heartless, disrespectful; well, you get the point.

So I have found the only thing that gives me comfort, keeps me from cussing folks out, and allows me to be somewhat "respectful" of the dead, is to be focus on the living.

Despite their pre mortem behaviors, these individuals have family and friends, who loved them despite their behaviors. These individuals are hurting; they deserve empathy; they are the victims; they deserve peace; they deserve grace.

I recently had an experience; where I had to place personal pain, disappointment, anger, and years of trauma aside to be there for someone I loved. It was difficult. There were times when I did not think that I could do it: be respectful, be the bigger person, provide comfort.

But in that moment, I realized that my love for the living left to mourn the troubled soul, who had passed on, outweighed my feels of trauma, anguish, and hatred for the deceased.

I am certainly not here to police anyone's feelings, but this worked for me, so I wanted to share.

The hurt and pain are still there; if I am being honest, will probably never go away, but at least I was able to "step up" for someone when it truly mattered, and I sleep better at night as a result.

So in this season of Aaron Hernandez's death, I mourn not for him, but for the family and friends who loved him, and especially to who his innocent four year old daughter, who  much like myself now has to navigate this thing called life, without her father. I empathize with her pain, pray for God's blessings and favor upon her life, and hope that there are enough people who can shelter her from the storms that will come as a result of the missing parental figure and her insurmountable grief over his loss.

Sometimes It Is Okay to Be Petty

I saw a recent Instagram post of Beyonce' and Mama Tina Knowles. They were decked in their Grammy attire, and had their middle fingers up with a "f the haters" message. Now some say it was their way of getting back at the Grammys for snubbing Beyonce' for the best album award. The truth is it may have been about that, or it may have been something totally different. The overall thing is their fingers, their business.

This week, I had a personal situation where I was challenged, and of course, I was expected to take the high road; and I didn't, and I decided to be petty instead.

The very people who elected the orange tyrant who is now acting like a 70 year old toddler, and the very people who consistently disrespected President Obama for eight consecutive years, now want people to take the high roads, and come together in love (rolls eyes).

I for one say, turning the other cheek, being the bigger person is highly overrated, and sometimes you have to let people know, that you are done taking their shit.

As I celebrated my 40th year of life a few months ago, I have been constantly doing self-reflection and trying to look for the lesson or the message in every experience. The lesson that I learned this week, is that sometimes people mistake niceness for weakness, and they will completely get out of control, if you let them continue to use and abuse you. In other words, sometimes you just have to let folks know who you are, and what you will not tolerate. Besides, what good is it in taking the high road and turning the other cheek, when you are miserable because all you wanted to be was petty?

And for those struggling with morality and their moral consciences, remember that even Jesus turned over their tables in the temple when he became angry over the thievery going on, and this same Jesus wants you to have an abundant life.

So take the high road if you truly believe that is what is right, but if your spirit, and your desire to be happy, say be petty, will petty you need to be!

Until next time......

Black Church: It is Time to Put Up or Shut Up

Since the election of Sunkist Hitler, it seems folks are losing their collective minds. What is even more disturbing are the number of people being passive and trying to get along, and with the let's just accept that he is president, mentality. Meanwhile, Sunkist Hitler is filling his cabinet with white nationalists, people unqualified for their positions, banning thousands of Muslims from this country, ICE are conducting raids in six states, and North Korea and China are ready to nuke us, but yes, let's just getting along with the 70 year old toddler.

But the most distressing thing is the silence and passiveness of the church. Last week, Tina Campbell, one half of the gospel group Mary Mary wrote a love letter to Trump, about how she was praying for him and how Christians need to practice love, yada, yada. This is the same Tina, who smashed her husband's vintage car after he cheated on her....I wonder where was this loving spirit then?

Then there is Donnie McClurkin who on yesterday posted that we need to support Sunkist Hitler and stop resisting..what Donnie? Oh, like you are resisting coming out of the closet sir? (Okay, that was a low blow, but Jesus loves the truth!).

When I think of the church and what it should look like in these perilous times, I think of Dr. Rev. William Barber, Raleigh minister, President of the NC branch of the NAACP, and organizer and founder of Moral Mondays. His leadership, voice, and refusal to remain status quo, have been a beacon of hope. More church leaders and anyone who calls themselves Christians, need to follow his lead.

Prayer is great and life affirming, but Jesus calls us to be doers and putting faith into action. Because while you are praying, Sunkist Hitler, is trying to take us back to the 1950's, and I for one, believe that the God, who I serve, wants a more abundant, prosperous life for me! Hallelujah somebody!

Until next time......

Please Leave Barack and Hillary Alone

It never fails, as Sunkist Hitler better known as you'll President Trump (he will never be mine, and I rebuke that contrary spirit, which says otherwise) leads us to the brink of World War III, as our economy hastens toward The Depression of the 1920's and 1930's, as race relations head back to the 1950's and 1960's Civil Rights Movement, each day I see at least one post asking where Hillary and Barack are; well, I will tell you: they are private citizens. I need for you to repeat that three times, one for the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, so leave them alone.

Barack gave you'll 12 years (two terms as POTUS, four as a state senator) and over 20 years as a community organizer in Chicago! Hillary has given you over 40 years (12 as First Lady of Arkansas, 8 as First Lady of this country, 8 years as a NY senator, 4 years as SOS, and over 20 years practicing law focusing on the impoverished and disenfranchised). Let them rest! They have served well, long, and let them flourish.

When we had both fighting for us, we did not appreciate them. To the know everything,  woke blacks, Barack was an Oreo, Uncle Tom who didn't do enough for blacks. For Liberal whites, his hope and change, didn't come fast enough, so they reverted to their subtle racist ways. For Conservative whites, his black skin and him holding the highest office in the country was enough to send them reeling. And then there are the sane Americans like myself, who realize that despite his missteps and imperfection, his heart, mind, and decision making were always  working for the greater good of our fellow citizens!

To the know everything, woke blacks: Hillary said superpredator back in 1996, so that made her racist (rolls eyes), she was the same as Trump, and she only pandered for black votes. To Liberal whites, they didn't like her because she chose to stand by her husband when he cheated on her, she didn't place white people's needs ahead of other marginalized groups, and she got rich by giving speeches (rolls eyes). To Conservative whites, she was a woman (and according to their Bible, and their white Jesus, women belong one of two places: in the bedroom or the kitchen, but never in charge; oh, and she liked niggers, which were strikes two and three).

So despite Hillary and Barack warning you for over two years, you voted third party, you told lies on Hillary and Barack, or you stayed home, and now we have a 70 year old toddler to contend with.

But Amerikkka built this, so it is up to us as "private citizens", the sane ones of us, who recognize that there is no such thing as the perfect candidate, but just the one with the least imperfections, the sane ones of us, who vote not because we "like" someone or because they promise us free stuff, but because we look out for our fellow citizens who may be seriously screwed if the more flawed candidate gets in the chair, which is the predicament that we are in  now

So leave Hillary and Barack alone. If they choose to fight with us, all well and good, but if they don't, they have long fulfilled their commitments to us. Instead, focus that energy on the people in office, whose salaries your tax dollars actually pay, to do their jobs, and to protect the interests of all citizens, and not the fairer skin, wealthy types!

Until next time.....
