Stephen A. Smith and Why My Fellow Black Men Disappoint Me

Stephen A. Smith was quick to defend Mark Cuban, but that is not the purpose of this blog entry. This blog entry's purpose is to address his recent comments regarding Ray Rice, and his two game suspension for domestic violence against his fiance. Smith (who has somehow become the official spokesperson for the black race since his Mark Cuban comments, but I digress) seems to think that two games of suspension are enough (mind you, the ban for marijuana and other illegal drug use is much more steep), and that women should somehow do more to prevent their own domestic violence abuse. I think his words were "women should take more preventative measures."

His fellow white female co-worker called him out. Even Fred Savage through sarcasm took to Twitter to call him out, and black feminists took to social media, blogs, and any other forum to call him out.

Guess who was noticeably silent? Black men. That's right. The mofos who could not stop flapping their gums after Don Sterling made his racist comments, or the ones who are quick to engage you in a convo about why Jordan is better than Lebron.

Where is your voice now? This man said that your wives, sisters, mothers, aunts, female friends, and any woman out there, should do more to prevent her own abuse, and you say nothing.

What does this tell me? We are hypocrites, and we have selective outrage.

Let someone say something racist, or derogatory about black men, and we are all over it, but we won't use that same voice or intestinal fortitude to protect our women? Why is that?

Maybe, somebody will speak up...I won't hold my breath.

Until next time.....
